My First Inpatient Shower Following My Hip Replacement Revision Surgery
[ Saturday November 29th 2025 at 4:28 pm ]

I just had my first shower. I even washed my hair. It went well. I have the DermaBond style of incision dressing. It creates a watertight barrier between the world and my hip. It is extremely rare to get an infection with this style of dressing. With this style of dressing it is an option to use a shower as soon as the patient has the energy to do this.

I needed help with my feet and my back. I have bending restrictions for the next few months. While I was showering my nurse changed the bedding. I brought a few changes of clothing with me. I am freshened up.

When I had my first shower following my April 2025 revision surgery I needed a ride to the washroom. This time I was able to walk there and back. I can definitely get use to having this new artificial hip. It isn't out to get me.

The biggest challenge from today was that first walk with the physiotherapist. It created some quad muscle pain that took 3½ hours to pass. This was unpleasant. But it wasn't the intensity of what I was living with before the surgery. I have a good grasp on how far to push for the next 36 or so hours.
