Ordered Replacement Freezer
[ Tuesday May 5th 2020 at 1:08 pm ]

Before going to bed last night I went into the kitchen. I heard a squealing. I am referring to the type of sound that is like someone running their fingers down a chalk board. The bearing in chest freezer #2 is rapidly dying. After doing research it isn't economically viable to repair it. The motor fan is a component within the freezer compressor. To repair this would cost nearly twice the price of the chest freezer.

However bad this is I see it as an opportunity. My legs are causing me so much trouble. I can't reliably bend to use the chest freezer. It is hurting me way too much. I've decided to replace my chest freezers with a vertical model. As things go the 16 cubic foot model is just about $100 more than the (2) 5½ cubic foot chest freezers I purchased in 2015. Due to Covid19 I have paid for home delivery. It is an extra $80. But realistically how else was I going to get it to my home when people are isolating themselves.

There is only 1 down side. The earliest delivery slot available is June 26th. That is a fully 7 weeks from now. I am going to be down to just 1 chest freezer. I need to think about how I'll organize the freezer. I have 2 chest freezers on account of cooking 3 to 4 months of meals ahead of time. I will need to re-design my food storage so I don't put myself into the nightmare of not knowing what is sitting where. I have spoke to the city. They will graciously organize the disposal of the freezer that is dying for me.
