Cleared By Physiotherapy For Discharge From Hospital
[ Tuesday December 2nd 2025 at 10:35 am ]

This morning the physiotherapist told me I meet the physiotherapy standards for discharge. This didn't surprise me. It has been getting easier to walk. I have been able to get in and out of bed by myself. When I have been practicing walking I have been able to go further. The hospital inpatient physiotherapy perspective is that they don't have the outpatient physiotherapy clinic equipment to challenge me further. On day 1 I told the physiotherapist how far I needed to walk in order to use the toilet and get myself food if I have a break. They have helped me achieve the practical goal needed for my hip surgery.

The last hurdle is getting my knee pain under control. When my surgeon came to my hospital room yesterday I told him what my pain management doctor would do for my knee pain. I had to stop using Omega 3 before the surgery. There is concern this will cause additional bleeding. My surgeon told me I could start using this again. Since I was told not to use this by the presurgical screening unit I didn't bring this with me. I have purchased more from the public pharmacy on the first floor of the hospital. It needs 1½ days to start building up in my blood to begin being effective for my knee pain.

I don't feel ready this moment to go home. I need to see my body get through tonight's sleep without nausea that would prevent me from getting my meals, water to drink and the steps needed to get to the toilet. To be fair I have been living with chronic pain since 2006. I understand pain management. This isn't a stretch for me to accept this is a real possibility. I coordinated my release from hospital pain management prior to my surgery. I have no concerns about pain control. When I needed to understand what the health care community was proposing I take for pain medication and supplements my questions were answered. I wasn't passive in accepting recommendations.

The remainder of my discharge from hospital is logistical. I plan to take the train from the city where I had my operation to the city where I live. I took the train home from my April 2025 surgery. I will look up my travel history on the VIA Rail website. Then I can work backwards to the time I boarded the transit bus to the train station and left the orthopedic ward at the hospital.

I will be really glad to see Gary The Hamster again. I haven't held him since November 24th 2025 or been summoned by him looking at his CCTV camera asking for food. It will be really great to see my little buddy again.
