My Surgeon Visited My Hospital Room As He Promised
[ Monday December 1st 2025 at 4:30 pm ]

My surgeon has come to my hospital room to see me. He promised he would do this when he finished operating today.

In preparation for this I have kept track of each time I walked since Friday and how the pain was after each walk. For today I got up to walk after eating my lunch. I walked 18 feet, stood for about 3 minutes while looking out the window and then walked back to my chair. It has become so much easier to use my new artificial hip. I figure I put about 25% of my body weight through the walker and the remainder of my body weight was going through my new artificial hip. I am very happy with this. I don't think I could be asking for this to be going better.

There is a "but". My right knee pain became very significant after walk and it didn't start to go down for 3 hours. I am really thankful this didn't turn into a migraine headache. My right knee is seen as a pain problem right now. This is instead of being a candidate for surgery right now. I need to heal from one surgery before another. I am okay with this.

If I was to see my pain doctor right now he'd make 2 changes:

  • He would immediately resume using Tylenol extended release. This lasts for 8 hours. It is safe to take 3 doses a day for 24 hour coverage. Tylenol will always be active in my body. Ironically if I hadn't gone through all the trouble with my left hip seroma following my April 2025 surgery we wouldn't know that the protein that is causing the pain isn't taking the normal route to my brain and just how helpful Tylenol extended release is for my pain management.
  • The use of Omega 3 has been really helpful in managing my knee pain. But this is organic. It needed to be stopped a week before my November 26th 2025 surgery. My surgeon is okay with me restarting this. I will buy more tomorrow at the public pharmacy on the main floor of the hospital I am at. If they don't have it in stock I'll see if they are able to get some in stock for Wednesday. Otherwise I will arrange delivery of this to the hospital with how Canada's e-commerce grew during the pandemic.

I am glad the surgeon assured me that he wouldn't kick me out and will wait until my body is ready. He is happy I am putting in the effort for why the hospital is here. This is instead of seeing the hospital as a 5 star hotel. I don't want to be in the hospital any longer than is needed. But I don't want to go home and not be able to look after myself. I should be able to have the time to address my knee and then build up the rest of the endurance I need for my living situation.

In terms of my artificial hip I figure I need 2 or 3 days without my knee being problematic to build up enough endurance in order to get home again. Overall my surgeon needs to satisfy himself that my knee pain isn't the result of my November 26th 2025 hip surgery.
