Changed Rocky The Hamsters Shavings

I have just changed the shavings where Rocky The Hamster forages and plays. Rocky has responded to this by tunnelling and playing like when he was a 6 week old. It is bittersweet. Rocky is in the advanced stages of old age. He now has a cheek abscess. He won't be with us much longer. This is terminal for a hamster. It is one of the ailments a Syrian hamster can get. I've really been enjoying caring for Rocky and feeding him out of my hand. I am trying my best to support him through his final days of life.
