My Mortgage Is Coming Up For Renewal

My mortgage on my house is up for renewal in March 2017. I've just sent a message to the mortgage division to find out if I am able to renew early.
My ultimate housing goal is to work towards constructing a modest ("tiny home") which is off grid. As a single man living on a fixed disability pension this is what makes most sense to me.
- I am looking for the layout of my housing to match the special set of needs I have and be compatible with a wheelchair.
- As a tool I am wanting to go off grid to make my budget work in the long term. My physical disability and medical treatment have kept me out of the work force when I should have been saving up for retirement.
I am thinking both short and long term.
