Appointment Concerning My Knee
[ Thursday April 28th 2022 at 1:20 pm ]

I had another very interesting medical appointment. I had sent the bracing clinic a summary of the latest setback my right knee did. When I arrived today they had a plan for me to try and further stabilize my right knee. They were very good to explain what I need to do in day to day life to milk the most out of my right knee joint. However all the solutions today are the equivalent of putting a person onto life support.

The way my right knee joint is acting checks all the boxes of being worn out:

  • The knee joint buckled
  • The knee joint suddenly locking (as if I had hit an invisible wall)
  • The knee cap dislocating multiple times
  • The vast amount of swelling
  • The way the knee cap is sitting to the right
  • The meniscus tear
  • Very limited ability to walk

In short thee bracing is not a long term sustainable strategy. However the practical part of this is keeping me functional until I can get the knee joint replaced. We're enduring a pandemic. Certainly survival strategies are important.

There is a also a lot of concern with how my arches have collapsed. With the tear on the left side of my knee they want to put my body weight through the right side of my knee joint to reduce the pain I experience. To help with this my arch supports have been modified further leaning my foot to the right. We only want to make 1 change at a time. We need to know what has worked and what hasn't. Much of this is trial error. When you are in my situation you have to be willing to try.

Overall I am happy how this appointment went. I don't see how it could have gone better. Most importantly I have some health care professionals who are invested in helping me.
