Sump Pump Check Valve Malfunctioned
[ Thursday February 17th 2022 at 11:30 pm ]

The past few hours have been incredibly stressful. I heard what sounded like a tap running in the basement. This isn't possible. There is a cold water tap in the basement. But as I live alone I knew this couldn't be the case. What I discovered was very concerning. Vibrations from the sump pump caused the gear clamps to work their way loose. Instead of water being pumped out it was spraying everywhere and the basement was slowly flooding. The following 3 hours felt like the battle of Britain from world war 2 in an attempt to prevent the building water going higher than the 2 patio stones my furnace is installed on. It was very touch and go as I discovered most of the gear clamps were affected and began failing with modest effort. As the struggles grew concerning my physical disability I had a fried come over to assist me. I got through this crisis. This does remind me of just how vulnerable I am when the unexpected happens. If I am able to be proactive I have the will to help myself and try to make something out of my life. But tonight's fiasco is going to require the next few days to physically recover from. At least I am able to be thankful that the water didn't damage my furnace.
