A Friend Came To Check On Me Prior To Today's Medical Procedure

I've just had a wonderful visit with a close friend. He came to be moral support. This afternoon I am having very serious injections into both of my knee joints. This will determine my future treatment.

I am expecting one of two extremes ot occur. If either knee joint is responsive to this medication there is a very real possibility that a stem cell transplant may revitalize my knee joints. Certainly not having to undergo further surgeries is desirable. However I need to be realistic. Neither of my knee joints is doing ok. The issues with them started about 14 years ago with the odd bad day. The past six months has been a rapid deterioration. I honestly wonder if both my knee joints are beyond restoring.

If a knee joint isn't responsive to this medication then it is very clear cut that I will need knee replacement surgery. A 91 year old retired orthopedic surgeon with specialist knowledge of the original disease I suffered with starting when I was 2 years old made a 2½ hour assessment of me in June 2012. He had first hand knowledge of the treatment I endured. He made it clear that I would need both of my knee joints replaced because the treatment methodology set in motion the demise of both my knee joints. I took note of this. However my knee joints weren't useless at the time.

Certainly after living through the demise of both my knee joints what I feel in my knees leads me to conclude I've reached the point where they are needing to be replaced. I need to try this medication for peace of mind prior to having further surgeries. I don't take lightly having my body modified. I am trying to make a reasonable assessment of what I want to have happen and the reasons why I would make this decision. This exercise is worth while even if I receive a poor result.
