My Surgeon Came To See Me

My surgeon just came to my hospital room. We talked for 10 minutes.
My operation was very concerning. It didn't look like a knee that should be causing so much pain and need replacing. The post surgery pain is way less than I was feeling before the surgery. The types of pain I am now feeling are explainable and reasonable.
My follow up will be either 6 to 9 weeks after surgery. My surgeon is away in mid June to speak at an orthopedic conference. This is my part in the recovery. If it is going smoothly I don't need him.
I explained the distances I have been able to walk. I am pleased. My surgeon is even more pleased. He is still on board with getting me enough inpatient physiotherapy that should my microscopic colitis flare up when I first get home I won't be stuck wearing diarrhea covered boxer shorts.
We talked about me using the warm water therapy pool for the recovery. There isn't high risk for infection with the fluid draining and a simple waterproof bandage will suffice.
I said to my surgeon how challenging the past 30 months has been and that I'd never wish it on anywhere but I've been so grateful to get help. Then I said I am perfectly happy to leave him alone until my follow up appointment and let me do my part. It is obvious my surgeon is seeing me as a whole person and that my joint issues aren't happening to me in a vacuum. I have been so grateful to have him for health care treatment during this time in my life.
