Started Work On My Knee Sliding Board
[ Thursday April 9th 2026 at 6:51 am ]

I have done the first step in making the knee slider board to rehab my artificial knee joint when I have surgery on April 24th. This will become the piece of wood my ankle rests on. It is the carriage that will slide back and forth.

To help you visualize what I am talking about this is a random image off Google of someone using it. The ankle slides back and forth. It is the sitting version of walking. The problem is that my left knee is also buggered. I need to be creative in getting my artificial knee to heal. This is for between 3 and 6 weeks (while the incision is open). Then this will be for the days when I don't go to the warm water therapy pool.

To make my knee slider board a viable option throughout the recovery I have purchased eye bolts and some resistance bands. This is a photo from Google of someone using a resistance band to help their knee heal. I am making my knee slider board longer so the resistance bands are able to be part of the device. When I am far enough along I will add the resistance bands. This means it will be necessary for me to use my muscles and my artificial knee joint to move the carriage back and forth.

I believe in God. During my March 23rd 2026 with my surgeon he has put the fear of God in me over the recovery. The appointment was 65 minutes long because I needed to talk through a non standard recovery. I don't want to be in crisis the day after I am released from hospital. I really need this to work. I am in the midst of setting in motion everything that is in my power to make my knee heal. It is so easy for a knee joint not to heal. A hip joint is forgiving when you are a bit lazy with the recovery. But with a knee joint you are damning yourself to permanent mobility challenges if you ever compromise on the recovery in the slightest. I don't want this for my life. I am willing to put in the effort.

For anyone who needs a good laugh: I will be putting on Richard Simmons Sweating To The Oldies videos while I do my knee stretches. I am looking forward to leaving some of these mobility challenges behind.
