Yesterday there was a press release that Canada Post is moving forward with converting all remaining door to door delivery addresses to community mailboxes. This is just one of the efforts to reduce the deficit Canada Post is experiencing and make it profitable again. Their business model has been heavily focused on letter mail delivery. Between their various strikes forcing people to try something new and the innovation that occurred during the pandemic to the electronic delivery of bills there just isn't the volume of mail to justify the manpower needed for door to door delivery. They plan to go to community mailboxes.
The street I live on was in the process of being migrated to community mailboxes when the Prime Minister of Canada announced a moratorium that brought this process to a halt. Now that this is back on I need to endure I am able to get a community mailbox I am able to reach using my power wheelchair. There is an accommodation form Canada Post has to present requests. There is a wide variety of needs people have which need to be address in order to have the ability to collect their mail from a community mailbox. The ability to reach a mailbox is a standard request. It should be no problem.
