The street I live on has above ground wiring. Periodically there are power surges. The light flickers off and back on again. In the instances where the power goes off and then comes right back on the UV light bulb for my home drinking water filter burns out. This is a specialized light bulb for my drinking water filter. It costs me about $30 CAD to replace (including shipment). I am at the place where it makes financial sense to use a UPS battery backup - surge protector to protect this light bulb. I have just ordered a unit for this purpose. I got a decent deal. It looks like 2023 stock is being cleared out. This will take about a week to arrive. When it arrives I will do the annual maintenance on my drinking water filter.
The value in the UV light bulb is making water borne organic material to become not viable. In common English the UV light kills any virus or bacteria in the water. It is a layer of protection preventing me from becoming ill. I had originally purchased this before undergoing regenerative medicine for my knee joint. The regenerative medicine relies on the immune system. There was value in not risking illness. I can't say I am disappointed in having this in place with the covid virus. I understand the technical aspects of waste water being treated and quality assurance testing proving the water released is a better standard than when it was drawn for the city water supply. I am not paranoid of illness. It seems when I get sick my physical disability knocks the snot out of me. It is worth it to me for the resources to keep this UV light operational.
In addition to this the drinking water filter captures sediment, water borne particles, possible rust when the fire hydrants are flushed each year, removes the taste of chlorine and flavours the water with coconut. This is significantly less expensive than buying bottled water. It is also much less waste produced. I need to sip on water throughout the day on account of the medication for my physical disability making my mouth dry. It is more pleasant with the taste of the water that comes from my drinking water filter.
