Changed The Battery In My Wireless Headset
[ Thursday July 27th 2023 at 3:32 pm ]

I just finished changing the battery on my wireless headset. I have enjoyed doing this. I found it really interesting seeing the inside of the headset and the wiring. The headset of 4 years old. With daily use I reached the stage where the battery was only lasting 90 minutes before needing to be charged. This isn't practical. What has helped me reach the 4 year mark is using a magnetic charger. This has prevented me from accidentally breaking the USB charging port from plugging it in each day.

I did some research before I ordered the replacement battery. I discovered there was physical space in the battery compartment to hold a battery that is 50% larger. I did the modification necessary to allow this. In theory my headset should now last for 8 hours before it needs to be charge. The most technical step was that I needed to solder the 3 pin connector Corsair used to the replacement battery I purchased. I found this very easy.

During the research to determine which battery I needed to buy I discovered replacement ear pads are available. They don't need replacing right now. I easily expect this headset to last at least another 6 years. If I need to replace the ear pads I now know how. An ear pad had to be removed in order to replace the battery. On my headset model the microphone plugs into the headset. If it breaks this is easy to replace. My plans of buying a headset that would last is working out well.
