Administered Treatment #1 For Rocky The Hamster's Abscess With Cryogenic Freezing
[ Tuesday July 11th 2023 at 12:45 am ]

I have just tried to give Rocky the first cryogenic freezing treatment. I wanted to err on the side of caution. This hasn't gone as planned. I have learned a lot and am confident this is worth a second try.

Before I did this I waited for Rocky to groom, empty his bladder, ask me for fresh vegetables a few times and forage the hamster seed mix I purchase for him at the pet store. If Rocky needed to rest after the treatment I didn't want him to have him in a compromised state.

I wanted to attack the abscess with maximum effectiveness. I purchased a kit that discharges the cold when it is applied directly to the item being treated. The noise scared Rocky. I hadn't considered this. It is obvious now in hindsight. Hamsters rely on smell and noise.

I tried an alternative method: I tried cooling my metal forceps and applying them to Rocky's abscess. They didn't retain the cold. In this way it wasn't effective. I was also concerned about causing the metal forceps to become temporarily froze to Rocky. I don't want to hurt him. Applying the metal forceps to Rocky didn't scare him. There is a style available where you activate the cold and then apply it. This is what I will try again.

I am going to stay awake to monitor Rocky. I love him very much. I don't want to cause harm to him.
