Rocky The Hamster Abscess Burst

My pet hamster has an abscess on his left air. When I checked on him this evening I discovered it started to burst. I've started the treatment to help Rocky through this. The fur around his ear had blood on it. I washed this. Rocky didn't enjoy this but he tolerated me doing this. I gave Rocky an antibiotic to help prevent him from becoming septic. The other thing I've done this evening was to change the shavings where he sleeps. I want to make it so Rocky isn't sleeping in what would give him the less chance of acquiring an infection. This wasn't pleasant. I'd prefer not to be doing this. But I am perfectly happy to care for Rocky and support him through this. The amazing part is that Rocky is acting like nothing is wrong. He is foraging, grooming himself, walking at a normal speed and generally doing his normal routine. He let me pet him as he foraged for the second time. I love these special moments. I care about him. I have a sense that Rocky knows this.
