Help With My Chores From A Good Friend
[ Tuesday June 6th 2023 at 2:18 pm ]

One of my good friends has spent the past 2 hours assisting me. We've been working on chores that are too physically challenging for me to do myself because of the bending, reaching and lifting involved. This is really wonderful. Two of the chores we completed were modifying my house rain gutters and modifying my window air conditioner.

  • When there is a lot of rain some water is still getting into my unfinished basement. This required further attention. I purchased 4 inch corrugated conduit designed for bringing rain water to the rear of the property and in my front yard to the edge of the city sidewalk. In the front yard the water will pass over the sidewalk and into a storm drain. In my backyard the water will enter the French drain setup in 2019 - 2020. This is now one less thing that is plaguing me.
  • My window air conditioner was also bringing the water drawn out of the air into the basement. This is because the water dripping from it was going into a disused coal chute. My friend took the housing of my window air conditioner apart, drilled a hole and added a modified valve stem as a water discharge line. The inside of the valve stem has been removed. It is hollow. The mechanism that is used for pumping up a tire has been removed. We cut a "V" notch in the rubber that is inside the window air conditioner. This now allows the humidity leaving my home through the window air conditioner to pass through the valve stem. Then I have control of where the water ends up. This is no longer going to end up in my basement.
