Follow Up For Knee Bracing
[ Monday May 9th 2022 at 3:45 pm ]

I had a follow up appointment concerning my knee cap tracking brace. Honestly I am not more confident now than before I had the appointment.

The bracing specialist is setting an expectation that there will be discoloration around the knee cap that stems from how the brace presses into the skin. He say it will be red but not an angry red color. The discoloration in my skin I am experiencing doesn't match the shape of the brace. I think the knee brace specialist got it wrong in this regard.

With how my knee cap has dislocated while in bed I was shown how to put it on loose enough to prevent blood flow issues but physically prevent my knee cap from dislocating. In very simple terms my knee cap can't dislocate if there isn't physical room for it to dislocate.

However a few hours after the appointment my pain medication dropped off. I could feel what is wrong with my right knee joint. It feels like the cartilage that lines the underside of my right knee cap has split vertically. This would explain a hollow popping sound that is intermitently coming from my knee joint?

Also the specialist offered to make custom orthotics (arch supports). I've decided to decline this and instead get a new set made that are 3D printed. The reason I am deciding this is the 3D printed model has more forgiveness. At this point I now think cast orthotics are going to be too hard and that I won't be able to tolerate them. I think my knee joint is too compromised.
