Ordered A Window Air Conditioner
[ Wednesday April 6th 2022 at 4:57 pm ]

My window air conditioner wore out in 2021. It was about 15 years old. It was a gift when someone moved and no longer required it. Over the past few weeks I've been thinking a lot about what to get as a replacement. There are so many options.

I'd like to go to central air conditioning. To do so I'd have to upgrade the electricity of my home to 200 amps. The upshot is that it would be quite expensive to do this.

I also looked at mini split models. These do appeal to me. A 2 zone model does make some sense to the shape of my home. There wouldn't be near as much setup expense with these. However to get involved in another project without finishing what I've been working on is just a bad idea. I decided to pass on this.

This leaves the option that makes sense being to continue on with what I was using. All that was left was figuring out feature wise what is a need verses a want:

  • The window air conditioner that wore out was 8,000 BTU. I decided to upgrade to 10,000 BTU.
  • Having a WiFi thermostat control for my heating has proven really helpful because of how degraded my knees are. I see this as a need.
  • The noise of the window air conditioner created a vicious cycle affecting my sleep (both as a day time rest and at night)
    • I couldn't sleep because of the noise
    • I couldn't sleep from the heat

Amazingly after searching for roughly 3 hours I found a wonderful deal. WalMart Canada is taking pre orders for an air conditioner model so they are able to offer their customers a discount. It will be delivered around June 14th. This will be in time for the summer heat. What is impressive it is U shaped. The noise making component that cools down the refrigerant is mostly blocked by the window. The window is almost able to close completely. If it interests you the model I purchased is Midea 10,000 BTU Wifi Smart Inverter U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner.
