Configured Controller For "Push To Talk" In Discord And OBS Studio
[ Sunday January 30th 2022 at 12:13 pm ]

I recently purchased a Turtle Beach Recon Controller with the idea that the 2 Quick Action Buttons on the back of the controller would be my Push To Talk buttons. I've just got this to work.

  • After connecting the controller I had to begin by rebooting the computer. This is what it took for Windows 10 to identify the controller and install the related drives.
  • Then I followed the manufacturers hardware instructions for mapping the quick action buttons to the corresponding stick click.
  • Setting up Push To Talk with Discord was easy:
    • Settings
    • Voice & Video
    • Input Mode
    • Push To Talk
    • Shortcut
    • Press Left Action Button to map it
  • Setting up Push To Talk for OBS Studio requires an extra step. It requires a keyboard - controller mapping. I used F10. Joy2Key fills this need.
    • Download and install Joy2Key
    • Follow the steps on their web site for mapping the Right Action Button to a chosen key on your keyboard. I used F10.
Within OBS Studio follow these steps:
    • Settings
    • Audio
    • Select Enable Push-to-talk on the microphone used for commentary
    • Hotkeys
    • Identify section dedicated to your microphone
    • Click in the box beside Push-to-talk
    • Press F10 or the mapping key of your choice used in Joy2Key
    • After proving Joy2Key works purchase a license.
