Began Casting My Concrete Yard Drain
[ Wednesday July 22nd 2020 at 8:30 pm ]

Today is a big day. I had help starting to cast my yard drain out of concrete. This has been a long time coming. This is for my French drain. It is to provide access for melting snow to get below the frost line and absorbed into the ground. This is instead of allowing water to pool and flooding my yard.

I designed the yard drain with an 8" sonotube centered within a 16" sonotube. This will produce 4" walls. It is 8 feet tall. I cut numerous pieces of ½" PVC cut to 5" lengths. This are positioned vertically in 4 columns offset every 4" inches. This provides lots of access for water to enter the drain and get down and below the frost line.

All in all it is wonderful seeing this coming together. There is still loads of drainage gravel to load after the concrete cures for 14 days. It is important to me to celebrate milestone steps. With the yard drain being central to this project it is great to see this coming together.
