Physiothierapy Ultrasound Cabinet Lid Just Split

A few weeks ago I purchased a cabinet to house my physiotherapy ultrasound machine. The cabinet I selected is a nightstand for beside a bed. It is the ideal height. The shelf is perfect for the physiotherapy ultrasound unit may sit on. The little door at the bottom is perfect to house my jug of ultrasound gel and towels I use to wipe the gel off of me after each treatment.
The top just split! I've never had this happen with a piece of furniture. I'm going to have to get out my bar clamp and carpenters glue to fix this. After the glue cures I'll need to refinish the top. I wasn't expecting this to happen. But I am rolling with life as it happens.
