Door Handle Latch For Main Entrance To My Home Broke

Over the past few months my door hasn't been opening quite right. It has been like the handle was sticky and in need of lubrication. Today it suddenly became unresponsive. Then the real problem dawned on me: The latch mechanism failed. The door would not open. It took about 20 minutes of fiddling. I was able to get the latch open one last time. Today is the Civic holiday. Tomorrow I will need to head up to the hardware store buy a replacement. For the time being I have to open and close the door grasping the head bolt handle. This is all part and parcel of being a home owner.
