Check Of My Furnace
[ Tuesday May 28th 2019 at 2:55 pm ]

There has been a very powerful smell of burning oil coming from my new furnace. When it was installed a few weeks ago the expectation was that it would smell for a day and then go away. This is what happened. But now the smell of burning oil back. It is very severe.

I asked for the company I purchased the furnace from to inspect it. I don't want to spend the kind of money and then have the furnace self destruct. One of their employees just finished inspecting my furnace. The furnace itself is fine. The smell is the oil continuing to burn itself off.

Today is a cooler spring day. The technician has recommended I take this approach to burn off the oil smell:

  • Set the thermostat to 75° F
  • Turn on the bathroom exhaust fan
  • Open the windows
  • Turn on my twin window exhaust fan

The hope is a few hours of the furnace running will resolve the oil used to make the furnace during manufacturing and end the intense smell of oil burning. Around 1:00 am the smell nearly stunk me out of the house. The smell is similar to an oil furnace heated home but to the nth in intensity.
