Retired Pain Management Doctor Planning Appointment

I had the appointment with my family doctor today to discuss my pain management doctor resigning and accepting employment at a pain clinic located in a different area of Ontario Canada. My family doctor wants me to err on the side of caution. He wants me to allow my pain management to be overseen by the replacement doctor for the time being. Then once my left knee joint has been replaced and I am well into the recovery my family doctor will assume responsibility for my pain management.
This way if the unexpected happens during surgery my family doctor has ensured I have access to a pain specialist. This is instead of being in limbo for several months and struggling. I am okay with this approach. I certainly understand a doctor that wants to exercise an abundance of caution in my care. I certainly can't argue with this. I can't take for granted that a smooth recovery will follow my left knee joint being replaced.
I really appreciate the time my family doctor spent talking this through with me. He was respectful of me as a person. He and I talked through the pros and cons of this decision. He also explained the scope of his pain management skill set. I most of all I appreciate that he listened to me when I told him I wasn't sure what was best for me.
