Living Life In A Wheelchair

June 2020 Newsletter Edition

It is amazing how fast June has passed. I've kept myself busy. All things considered I am pleased with how the month of June progressed for me.

My personal 2019 income tax return has been processed by Canada Revenue Agency. This makes available some low income programs here in Canada available to me. Amazingly these supplement the disability benefits I receive. Amazingly the various levels of government have worked together to prevent benefits from being clawed back for the recipients of the programs I am referring to. I also received written confirmation the city where I lived has approved me for my the 2020 property tax subsidy. I've said different times how I am fortunate to be in Canada and how there are many countries where I wouldn't receive the level of care available to me here. I'm reminded of this again as I write this months newsletter.

I took the next natural steps to make meal preparation easier for me. My single serving rice cooker wore out. I've acquired a replacement. I find a traditional family size rice cooker doesn't do a good job cooking a single serving of brown rice. Eating brown rice was a suggestion to avoid constipation in response to the medication I use for my chronic pain. Also I've reluctantly purchased a microwave oven. I like cooking with my natural gas stove top and oven. It has become inevitable that I use this for warming up some of my meals. I am trying to figure out the right balance between working on my projects while staying on top of what is required for day to day living. I am trying to take care of myself. Both of these appliances will be purposeful in my life.

I'm continuing to make progress in piloting my drone. I've discovered the overhead expenses added when companies import the consumable parts (such as batteries and propellers) from China and resell them here in Canada. I've placed a bulk order for these to keep me flying for the 2020 season. Then I'll re-assess where I am at in 2021. I am enjoying this as a hobby. It has been wonderful getting outside and having something to focus on. I think piloting the drone is a good match for me. The other thing I love getting outside for is nature photography. I live all of 5 minute from the Bay of Quinte. There are lots of opportunities there to make the best for my quality of life activities.

The replacement power supply for my audio recording - music computer arrived. I am glad this is in place. I've started thinking about creating my annual Christmas Lights video for 2020. I use the computer to display my music and record myself using Audacity and the USB interface device is Behringer UCA202. I really enjoy creating this annual video. It is wonderful sharing the sights of Christmas with those who are unable to do so themselves. I am hoping in the future to write some books themed around living with a physical disability and chronic pain. This computer gives me the ability make audio versions of what I'd write. Before my hip joints were replaced I heavily relied upon audio instead of reading because of the challenges created concentrating. I expect others experience the same difficulty. I believe my life is going the right direction and I am able to do something that is meaningful in response to all the effort and resources that been invested in me and the medical treatment for my physical disability.
