Accessibility Sidewalk Modification At My Local Hospital
[ Thursday May 15th 2025 at 12:27 pm ]

I have been to my local hospital emergency department several times since my April 2nd operation. I have noticed the sidewalk transition to the parking lot doesn't go all the way. That lip that has to be climbed always gives me a jolt. It isn't the complete transition the hospital used elsewhere on their sidewalks. It is also a narrow area that is just wider than the width of my power wheelchair. This is located in the middle of a 2 vehicle drop off zone. I often have to use a different sidewalk transition point due to parked vehicles helping their loved one to the triage nurse station. I just wrote the hospital patient relations department a short e-mail suggesting the sidewalk transition area be complete and the area where this transition happens be enlarged. There is a team responsible for the sidewalk and parking lot that will further consider this. It would be really nice to not have the jolt of pain when I use this sidewalk transition.
