Hip Replacement Revision Surgery Incision Assessment
[ Saturday April 12th 2025 at 11:06 pm ]

I have just finished having my incision looked at and the dressing changed by the emergency department of my local hospital. I am really glad I came here for help this evening.

My surgeon used a new style of incision closure during the operation to replace my left artificial hip. It is called Dermabond. The idea is that it provides a barrier during the healing period. For the patient showering is possible. This makes the recovery from surgery easier. From a medical perspective this forms a barrier and protects from infection.

It was explained to me that with this style of dressing there is typically no discharge or draining from the incision. In the event that the incision starts to drain up to a tablespoon is the most that typically happens. This makes it so much easier to care for the incision and reestablish the routines involved in life.
