Ordered A Cell Phone

I have just done something that I didn't see myself doing in 2021. I have purchased a cell phone. I've decided to buy a Samsung Galaxy A15 5G.
Later in June I am going to be spending a night in Montreal. I need to have the ability to contact the friend who is meeting me at the train station. I don't have a cell phone. It is clear that this is what is needed. Initially I was hoping to be able to do this using my tablet. On the website I purchased this from shows I purchased a model that has a SIM card slow and the version before mine doesn't. It is now obvious that I was sent the wrong model. I have been using a voice over IP phone service for several years now. They have an app to make calls using. My original thought was to get a month of prepaid cell phone service and be able to call my friend using my tablet once I arrived at the train station. It is too bad this isn't an option. On the other hand I am getting a lot of use out of my tablet. I am not feeling disappointed.
But I've been thinking. That app is able to be used over WiFi. It now makes sense to me that I buy a cell phone. I will just use WiFi at home to make and receive calls. For me this is all I need right now. I can't get to my desk phone while it is ringing because of the state of my knees. In fact a few months ago I changed the voice mail greeting with a request that when possible I be contacted using social media so I am able to correspond using my computer. But with a cell phone I will be able to keep this with me and make and receive calls as I live out my life at home. When I am in bed at night I will sleep with the cell phone beside me. If I need to call for an ambulance because of my hips or knees I will be able to do so using the cell phone. The cell phone will sit beside the glass of water I keep beside my bed each night.
I just hadn't realized the cross over of cell phones to using WiFi and how the creation of smart phone apps fundamentally changes how a cell phone works and it's capability. It now seems this will be a really good match for me. With how my orthopaedic condition significantly deteriorated over the past 6 months I think this is needed in my life. The way my hips are locking and my knees buckling I just don't know if or when I will need to make a call for ambulance assistance. I have been close to this happening a few times now. The use of a cell phone in how I plan to use it should add value to my life.
