Added A Thermal Blanket To My Hot Water Heater

I try to stay aware of money saving strategies. Part of my strategy to live within my means is by using energy saving strategies in the operation of my house.
My latest strategy is the use of a thermal blanket to provide additional insulation for my hot water tank. As the sole resident in this house the major use of hot water is for my personal hygiene. Between showers the warmth in the water begins to bleed out of the hot water tank. The thermal blanket is now installed and will slow this process.
While I am talking about my hot water tank I also want to mention I use a timer with my electric water heater. I have tweaked the water heater for my life style. Again as the sole resident of this house I'm only paying for electricity to heat the water when it is necessary.
Between the thermal blanket and timer I am saving about $20 CAD each month. over the course of a year this jumps to $240 CAD. The end result is the same: I have warm water when needed. I've "trimmed" the excess from my budget.
There are many little things you are able to do to lower your cost of living without really changing your life style. It just requires the commitment and being willing to learn and ask questions. For being a low income household this is certainly helping my quality of life.
