Preparation For Sump Pump Installation

I've completed the preparation for my sump pump installation. I've setup the discharge drain for both the main and battery backup sump pumps. I've done the solvent welding of the ABS components. I have the check valves in place. For right now I've used a short length of ABS conduit with an end cap for where the battery backup will connect.
We are in the spring thaw. The water coming into the sump pump pit is just too fast and too intense for me to remove the sump pump that is wearing out. I've spoke to a friend with lots of life experience. He is telling me to buy a flexible discharge drain. The idea is that this will provide appropriate discharge during the switch out and not have my basement flood.
My sump pump pit needs to be enlarged to hold the battery backup bilge pump. I will need some help enlarging my sump pump pit. I am breaking this into manageable pieces (or sub projects). I am sure I will be able to get this all done within a few weeks. Then I won't be concerned about my furnace being wrecked from a flooded basement. I am also going to have my landscaping neighbor grade my yard to discourage the volume of water that is being pumped out.
