From Hand Towels To Bibs: A Special Present For One Of The Young Men I Support

What is wrong with my body is very visual. I can't hide my physical disability or my power wheelchair. From time to time youth and young adults in the community look up to me as a role model and periodically share their struggles and rewarding moments with me. This has been one of the redeemable themes of living with a physical disability and chronic pain.
Recently one of them came to me with news of his girl friends pregnancy. This isn't a decision I made for my life. But moving forward offering support is how I am able to show support in a way that is helpful. I've been wanting to do something helpful in a tangible way as this young adult starts his family.
I learned how to use a sewing machine when I was 7 years old. I've recalled a craft my aunt showed me years ago. It is converting hand towels into bibs. I've talked this over with the young man. He is open to this. I've mail ordered a supply of hand towels to make this.
In part I hope this is helpful in a practical way. The other component to this is it takes time to build a lasting and loving relationship. I would like to help him avoid stupid fights caused from being over tired and laundry needing to be done. I am hopeful the bibs will be a helpful asset during this time in their life together.
