Discussion With Surgeons Administrative Assistant

I've been to the hospital to have a discussion with a surgeon's administrative assistant. I am thinking of having a lubricating injection in my knee joints. The surgeon sked me to follow up with his administrative assistant if this is what I wanted to pursue. It interests me. The surgeon is presently out of the country. Upon his return the administrative assistant assured me she would advocate for me.
This wouldn't fix what is wrong. It would help with my pain control for a few months and affirm what I've been saying for the past few years about the source of pain being the soft tissues in my knees being deteriorated. If my pain was better controlled I could make some proper progress on my chores and self employment goals.
I have a very long road ahead of me. It was made clear to me in June 2012 that I would be requiring knee replacement surgery when my knee joints wore out. This assessment was by a 91 year old with special knowledge of the hip disease I had. It is a fight to get a surgeon to consider operating because what is wrong is so specialized. There is an extraordinary amount of risk involved. I need to have peace of mind that if a surgery goes sour (as has repeatedly happened to me) I won't be doomed to poverty for the rest of my life. I really don't know that I can manage pursuing self employment if I end up in worse physical condition without the frame work being established prior to another surgery backfiring.
Any type of surgery will require extensive physiotherapy. The arthritis in my spine isn't going to be resolved. Also my hips haven't healed from being replaced. They are in worse shape now than before the replacement surgery. In summary a "pro" verses "con" approach to deciding on further surgeries isn't clear cut. Right now I am not comfortable that this is in my best interests.
