Delivering Of the Materials To Block My Knitting Crafts

I am using my knitting machine to make a scarf for one of my friends. He has been very supportive towards me. When my knee buckled for the third time 3 weeks ago he really stepped up. He made me feel cared about. He has made time to talk to me. We also played computer games together using the Internet. I want to do something for this friend. I thought making a scarf would be a nice present and something that would be used.
The yarn I purchased to make this is polyester based. Polyester is a man made fiber. As a result of it being man made it curls. What this means is the scarf needs to be blocked. The steps for blocking are straight forward:
- This involves pinning the scarf to a solid surface. In this situation it means I need to make the scarf into a rectangle.
- Spritzing it with water. \n\n
- "Air ironing" the scarf with the iron on the highest setting.
- Let the scarf dry while remaining pinned for at least 12 hours \n\n
- Removing the pins and seeing if the shape of the knitting held
The trick is that the heat of the iron can't go directly onto polyester. This would cause it to melt. The iron needs to be held about "above the scarf while still using the steam option on the iron. I will know if I've done it correctly when the pins are removed and it doesn't curl at the edges.
There are only 2 supplies I need for blocking. The first is a set of rubber mats used for a child to play on. These are going to be my hard surface. I also ordered a set of T pins. These are easiest to work with while blocking. It will be great to have a task I'm working on completed. I hope to do this on the weekend. This is a very special way of saying "thank you" to a friend that has freely given of himself supporting me. I couldn't be more grateful.
