Ordered Replacement Filters, UV Light Bulb And Power Supply For My Home Drinking Water Filter System

It time for the annual maintenance of my drinking water filter. I use a permanently connected drinking water filter. This is opposed to when I owned a Brita that filters one jug worth of water at a time. The reason I switched was because of the weight of water and the pain this caused me to experience as my arthritis progressed. With the weight of a jug worth of water just isn't compatible with my legs.
What is different with this years maintenance is that the UV light power supply ballast also needs to be replaced. The street I live on has above ground wiring. Periodically the lights will flicker in my home when there is a high gust of wind. The UV light bulb my drinking water filter uses doesn't tolerate this very well. Being rapidly turned off and back on causes the UV light bulb to fail. This appears to have damaged the power supply. What I am doing differently this time is using a UPS battery backup - surge protector to avoid the momentary loss of power during these events. Including the cost of shipping to replace the UV light bulb it has been costing me approximately $30 a unit. After replacing 3 bulbs I can justify the expensive of a UPS battery backup - surge protector.
My drinking water filter has 5 stages. It is very thorough:
- The filter cartridge removes particles, impurities and dust contained in the water.
- The granular activated carbon cartridge treats the water by removing chlorine, organics and any remaining suspended particles contained in the water.
- The block activated carbon cartridge treats the water by removing chlorine, organics and any remaining suspended particles contained in the water.
- A coconut filtr adjusts the taste of the water. It no longer tastes like chlorine.
- UV light kills any bacteria or virus in the water making it safe for me to drink.
I really don't like the taste of chlorine in water. On account of my pain medication I need to drink enough water and eat healthy to avoid constipation. The end result of my drinking water filter is a pleasantly tasting water. I am able to easily avoid dehydration. In terms of cost this is significantly less expensive than buying bottled water. This also produces significantly less waste compared to bottled water.
