Purchased The Wire To Make A Spot Welder

I am working towards creating a spot welder. My initial use of this will be for converting a guinea pig cage into a hamster cage. The bars need to be more closely spaced. I've ordered many of the materials needed from China. In part this saves money. In practical terms my sump pump failure and refrigerator wearing out have set back my plans. I am not near ready to work on the hamster cage. The two to three weeks components will take for delivery will help me complete what I was working on before these two events demanded my attention.
There are two items I need to buy from the area where I live:
- The first is a used microwave oven. The transformer is modified for a spot welder. There are no lack of used microwaves available. A used microwave oven is suitable for this purpose. The magnetron wearing out is the typical reason for disposal. The transformer is typically still fine. There is the possibility of getting one from the household electronics recycling depot. I have asked. They are willing. It depends on what comes in. Used microwave ovens are plentiful.
- The other is 2 meters (6 feet 8 inches) of 0 AWG wire. This is needed for the amps a spot welder requires. A local electric supply store ordered this in for me. I have picked this up.
I am expecting the bulk of the components to arrive mid to late March. This is perfectly fine with me. I am looking forward to finishing off my green screen. That is the current project before my plans were disrupted.
