Order Heavy Gauge Wire For Making A Spot Welder

My hamster, Rocky, has received some fan mail: He has received some enrichment activities. He has been living in a large fish tank. These enrichment activities require a traditional wire cage to be installed. The pet store told me to have at least a 4 inch base for the shavings. By doing this I could space out the frequently of changing the shavings. In turn this is much easier on my body.
Over the past few weeks I've gone on a bit of a tangent trying to find a hamster cage with a deep base. All I've come up with are various models made out of wood which have reviews saying the hamster chewed through it and escaped. This isn't helpful. I have, however, reached a decision: Guinea pig cages will work so long as the bars on the cage are doubled. Rocky is a Syrian hamster. The bars need to be spaced ½" apart.
I went online to see how commercial pet cages are created. I discovered they are spot welder. Over the years I've watched videos of how to make spot welders. You are able to do so using a modified transformer from a microwave oven. This seems like something I could. I could assemble this at a height which won't be hard on my body. I think it is worth pursuing.
I've had various conversations with friends about doing this and their input. I've listened to what each person said. What lead me to deciding to go this route is the likelihood that I'll continue to have pet hamsters for years to come. Spot welding is a good long term option. For this interested: The less permanent solution is with J clips and a J clip crimper. When I look at using the original plastic base of a guinea pig cage I realized there isn't physical space for J clips and I am needing to continue with the original manufacturers construction and design methodology.
I've watched several videos of how to build a spot welder. I see things I like, what I don't like, what I deem as being dangerous and how I'd make one. I've ordered the parts. Finding the right gauge wire was the last hurdle to overcome. I now have this ordered. I am on track for addressing this.
I love my little buddy. I enjoy his company. I enjoy caring for him and providing for his needs. I am looking forward to doing this for Rocky and when he'll be able to move into the cage I'll have modified for him. I've decided to order many of the components for a spot welder from China. These will arrive around the end of March. I will still need to get a worn out microwave locally. All in all Rocky should be situated and have his enrichment activities in April 2022. I will be really happy for him when this happens.
