Fixing A Neato Connect Botvac D5 That Won't Charge

I wanted to post how I overcame my Neato Connect Botvac D5 not taking a charge. This is for the units that use a lithium battery:
The charger the lithium batteries use is a smart charger. It operates at 19 volts DC to charge the battery and 14 volts DC to keep the robot vacuum from discharging while it is on stand by waiting to clean. I figured this out using my multi meter (an electrical testing tool).
My particular D5 charger got stuck on "stand by" and wouldn't charge. Eventually I realized unplugging the charger, seating the robot vacuum against the charger and then plugging the charger back in was the key to having the smart charger revert to the 19 volt charging mode.
I am hoping someone will see this in the future and save themselves a few hours of frustration.
