Ordered An LED To Light When My Sump Pump Is Operating
[ Thursday September 30th 2021 at 12:36 am ]

Recently my sump pump jammed on. When the seals of a submersible sump pump warm up they are prone to failure. It just isn't worth the risk of flooding my basement over the cost of a new sump pump.

The style of sump pump I purchased has a separate plug for the float. This toggles the hot wire. I able to use a tee extension bar that will still pass electricity to the sump pump and also power an LED on the main floor of my home so I kow when the sump pump is turned on. The idea is that if the sump pump gets jammed on I will detect this shortly after this happens through the LED.

I've just ordered a very simple 12 volt DC LED for this purpose. I will be using a 12 volt DC power supply adapter to plug into the tee extension bar. Then a low voltage power wire rated for in wall use will run to where I want the LED situated. I am planning to position this beside my thermostat. That is the natural location for this in my home. I will be making a video on this when it is setup to share for others.
