Yard Drain Is Finishing Being Parged
[ Tuesday August 11th 2020 at 7:41 pm ]

I made a bit of a disappointing discovery when the outer sonotube for my yard drain was removed. I didn't think to vibrate the concrete. There are voids on the surface that would have been filled with concrete if it had been vibrated during the pour. I am into the repair of this. Repairing this is a two step progress:

  • Parge the voids created. There is high strength pre mix power available for repairing degrading concrete. Although it is too bad that I forgot this step it is able to be overcome.
  • Apply foundation sealer to further protect the concrete yard drain from deteriorating during the freeze - thaw cycles. Freezing water has incredible strength. It is able to easily fracture concrete. The foundation sealer typically used when constructing a new home will act as a barrier and extend the service life of the concrete yard drain.

What matters is there is a plan to move forward. If this was for the foundation of a home the concrete would need to be replaced. Thankfully this is able to be overcome.
