In today's mail is an annual letter I receive from the Federal Government of Canada. The letter outlines my Registered Disability Savings Plan grant money for 2026 and the amount I must contribute to receive this.
On November 20th 2025 I had a financial planning appointment. I made the maximum contribution to bring me current with the available grant money since opening my Registered Disability Savings Plan.
For 2026 I am eligible for $1,000 grant if I make a $1,000 contribution. I had my preauthorized contribution set to $75 a month. This means I have contributed $150 for January and February 2026. This leaves $850 for the remainder of the year. Since there are 10 months remaining I have modified my monthly contribution to $85.
I am very grateful for this. This money will become available for me to use once I turn 65. The idea is that it will cover the expenses related to and as a result of my physical disability. This could be for things such as yard work, hiring someone to clean for me, maintenance of my power wheelchair and accessibility aids I use to manage the shortcomings of my body. This money represents quality of life and peace of mind.
