Meet And Greet Appointment With My New Family Doctor
[ Wednesday April 1st 2026 at 1:00 pm ]
I have finished the "meet and greet" appointment with my new family doctor. It went really well. This family doctor is easy to talk to. He appreciated the summaries I prepared of the medications I am using to manage my pain, nausea and avoid skin break down on account of using a power wheelchair. He was understanding that I need melatonin to help me go into a deep enough sleep that pain doesn't easily wake me up. He was compassionate with how my knee pain makes me feel like I am going to vomit. He was very understanding with all 9 of the hip surgeries I have had as a result of my Legg Perthes disease.
Prior to today's appointment I completed the initial patient intake form. It was highly detail oriented. The questions he was asking had to do with preventative health care treatment and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to the extent that this is what the patient wants for their life. I am genuinely happy with how this conversation went.
My blood pressure was high. This isn't the first time. I was nervous. I am really counting on this family doctor being a partner in my health care treatment. I am not concerned about it. My blood pressure readings after my November 26th 2025 right artificial hip revision surgery were normal when time had passed since my most recent physiotherapy efforts. The plan is for me to do 3 blood pressure readings at my home twice a day for a week. Then I will have an appointment with my family doctor to discuss what my blood pressure is "in real life". This is opposed to it being high while I was at the doctor office today.
I also need to do blood work. We check that my internal organs are managing okay. Or if any require medication it is best to catch it early to prevent damage and for me to be healthy as my body ages.
I am very pleased. This was well worth it.
