Another Hospital Emergency Department Visit
[ Monday March 17th 2025 at 12:10 am ]

I have been to my local hospital emergency department again to have my left artificial hip looked at. The artificial hip has evolved to the second to last worst possible outcome. The worst condition is when the artificial hip pops out and it just won't go back in. This is very dangerous. What I am dealing with is the artificial hip mostly falling out of the sock but not quite 100%.

The hospital put my artificial hip back in place. They did this by accident. I was placed on a hospital bed for someone with severe physical impairments. The mattress on my hospital bed could be filled with air. Simple filling it up popped the hip back into it's socket. This is good to know for the next 2 weeks. It was very helpful that I had a photo to show my left leg being shorter than my right leg.

I asked 2 questions: What was normal and when would it be dangerous:

The doctor answered about what is dangerous first. It would be dangerous to loose the feeling in my left leg and not have it come back quickly. If this happens I must immediately go to the hospital. This will lead to permanent injury.

Then we talked about the short term. If I wanted to be admitted to hospital last night they would have done so. Presumably the local hospital will admit me if the need arises since this was offered. What is normal is to try walking and assess if this is possible. Then if so I become a crisis patient and am moved to the top of the hip replacement surgery waiting list. I tried walking. The artificial hip is like popcorn popping right now. I wanted to be left alone to rest. For the time being I am going to tough out the 2 week wait here at my home and prepare what I need to have in place for surgery.

Considering the past 16 months of challenges with my left artificial hip I am happy with this outcome.
