Got My Cell Phone Repaired

My cell phone battery needed to be replaced. My local pawn shop has a technician on staff that does this work. In late winter I asked them to source a replacement battery for the model of cell phone I own. Then I promised I'd come to their facility to have it replaced as soon as the snow melted and I could travel there using my power wheelchair without the risk of getting stuck. I just had the battery changed. The battery that was replaced was using 1% of the battery power for each minute the screen was turned on. The available battery power wasn't enough to make it through a day. Now I am looking at the battery needing to be charged every other day. It was money well spent.
There has been a recent development in the European union concerning cell phones. The manufacturers are being compelled to maintain the cell phone operating system for 10 years and to make it so the user of the cell phone is able to replace the battery with common tools. This will drastically reduce the amount of electronic waste replacing a cell phone every few years creates. When the European union compelled the manufacturers to all use USB C chargers this led to new iPhones in Canada using USB C chargers. I am hoping battery replacement legislation compels the change world wide. It just makes sense.
