A Special Moment In The Emergency Department
[ Tuesday April 15th 2025 at 5:49 am ]

While I was in the waiting room I saw another patient getting tired. We were both in the "Green Zone". I was in the hallway. She and her dad were in one of the 2 "Green Zone" rooms. She was in her teens. I turned my wheelchair around to face her. Then I asked "Would a warm blanket make it better?" She nodded her head. After this I asked "Is it okay for me to ask the hospital staff to get you one on your behalf?" She nodded her head yes for a second time.

I used my power wheelchair to go down the hall to get one of the emergency department staff members. I said the staff member "There is a young woman here that could really use a warm blanket for comfort. Would you be able to get her one please?" The employee did so.

Then I said to her there is one more thing I can do to help you. I turned the light switch off in the Green zone waiting room she was in so it could be quiet and she could feel peaceful while waiting for a doctor.

The man she was with just popped his head into my emergency department examination room as they were on their way out. He thanked me for the kindness I showed his daughter this evening and said it was pretty cool. I responded "absolutely". I try to leave things better than when I arrived.
