A Discussion With My Pharmacist

I've been to the pharmacy I get my pain medications from. I went to have a conversation with the pharmacist concerning my pain management doctor prescribing the medications I use for my chronic pain. I am happy with how the conversation went. I felt heard and understood.
Since I arrived at the end of the day I was able to spend approximately 12 minutes with the pharmacist with a brief 3 minute pause while the pharmacist signed off on medication for another patient who was waiting. He also used this time to look at my chart to see what needs to happen for April 10th.
Since the pharmacist isn't someone I am use to speaking with I gave him the opportunity to ask me questions in getting to know and understand me. The only thing that made me slightly uncomfortable is when he asked me how I keep so much information straight in my head. When I looked down at the floor and ran my hand through my hair the pharmacist didn't want to push for an answer from me said "It is your job." At that point I responded "No. I will tell you the answer. But I don't want you to repeat this. My IQ is in the 160's. I am able to easily track these details. There is a lot more that I know and don't let on about so I am able to respond to strangers who stop me on the side of the road and want someone to listen. Being in a wheelchair and smiling as I enjoy life does this to people.
I am happy with this dialogue. I think I'll be taken care of. The pharmacist asked me to relay a piece of information that should help my pain management doctor. I will do this when I arrive home. The pain clinic has access to the billing system my disability benefits uses to pay for my pain medications. They will be able to see my medication fill history. I am a fan of one health card number - one patient chart for the entire Province of Ontario Canada. I think inter-communication and continuity in my care is important.
